You share the Word with your sisters and brothers in Christ. This is not a performance, but a reading of God's word. It needs to be prepared and done with a sense of passion and expression. Practice at home before you read on Sunday. You will receive a copy of the readings in the mail or via e-mail. If there are difficult names or places, learn the pronunciation (when in doubt, check with the pastor), and write them down phonetically on the sheet from which you will read.
- You will read the lessons and the leader part of the Prayers of the People.
- Sit near the front of the sanctuary. This reduces the time you need to get in place, and ensures a continuous flow of worship. Check the bulletin so you are at the microphone, not approaching it, when it's time in the service for your ministry.
- Always use a microphone, even during the prayer.
- If there is a guest pastor, make contact with him/her prior to the start of service so he/she knows you will be assisting in worship.
